Born in 1981 in Kyoto, Japan.
After studying Japanese painting at Kyoto City Dohda Senior High School of Arts, Fumie went on to study at Kyoto University of Art & Design, where she received her degree in performing arts. While she studied, she assisted a lighting designer working for shows on stage such as contemporary dance performance. She then attended the graduate course Art and Cultural Research Field at the university and deepened her studies in stage production.

After receiving her master’s degree, she worked as a freelance lighting designer based in Kansai area, getting involved in performance works by such artists as Tadasu Takamine, Marebito-no-kai, Zan Yamashita,Setsuko Yamada,Yujiro Sagami, and kitamari.

Since she joined the YCAM team in April 2008, Fumie has been responsible for overseeing the lightings for all the YCAM-hosted exhibitions and performances. She pushes ahead with her work while realizing the importance of the moment when the idea germinates, the quality of the works being developed through engagement, and crossing the genres.
