Organically shaped architectural object.

When a visitor approaches this object, a sensor installed in a spherical body at the top of the object measures the visitor's position and distance, and triggers operations of three legs that modify the structure's configuration by expanding and contracting like an aquatic animal, according to the measured values. At the same time, LEDs in the legs and the spherical body begin to emit variously colored lights, while sounds become audible from the object itself. By walking close to, or even through this giant object, the visitor can experience interactive transformations of individual shapes and the entire exhibition space alike.

Profiles

Daan ROOSEGAARDE

Architect / Artist

Daan Roosegaarde creates interactive landscapes that respond intuitively to sound and motion. Roosegaarde's innovative works of art are a dynamic fusion of architecture, people, and technology. His sculptures, such as 'Dune', 'Sustainable Dance Floor' and 'Intimacy', form tactile high-tech environments in which the viewer and the space become one. This link between design and content, between ideology and technology, is what Roosegaarde calls 'techno-poetry'. Studio Roosegaarde is the home of artist Daan Roosegaarde and his team of designers and engineers. His book 'Interactive Landscapes' by NAi Publishers includes a complete survey of Daan Roosegaarde's projects to date, revealing the line of development in his oeuvre. Roosegaarde has won the Dutch Design Award, Design for Asia Award and China's Most Successful Design Award. He has been the focus of exhibitions at the Tate Modern, the National Museum in Tokyo, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and various public spaces in Rotterdam and Hong Kong. Recently Roosegaarde launched its second studio in Shanghai, CN.
